Character Name: Alistair Theirin

Personality:
Content warning: very brief mention of child abuse

"You look suspiciously like the cat who swallowed the pigeon."

Alistair Theirin regularly strikes people as a bumbling idiot when meeting for the first time, and it's an image he's worked very hard to cultivate thank you very much. He's actually much smarter than he likes to act but he's the sort to deflect every single thing ever with humor, and he's not afraid to poke fun at himself or even outright play the fool if he must.

He's the product of childhood abuse and neglect. As the bastard son of the king of Ferelden, Alistair grew up believing his mother was a maid who'd fallen for the king. In reality his mother was an elf mage and Grey Warden who didn't want her son to grow up knowing the discrimination and hatred that elves face in Thedas so she chose not to raise him herself. Alistair was passed along to Arl Eamon who never actually really looked out for him much despite Alistair's staunch belief that Eamon is a good man. Eamon's wife didn't like the idea of having the ~king's bastard son~ around and Alistair ended up doing such things as being made to sleep in the kennels with the dogs. He also mentions that he'd locked himself in a cage once and spent the whole day there, presumably because no one ever thought to go look for him. Eamon eventually sends Alistair off to the chantry where he's raised by the sisters there which leads to his eventual training to be a templar.

His lack of a proper family growing up has had an impact on him and he tends to look for surrogate parental figures where he can. Arl Eamon is arguably a father figure to him, Duncan is his strongest father figure, he occasionally speaks to Wynne as he would a mother, etc. He also went looking for a woman he believed to be his sister even though there was a good chance she'd be awful and... she was. He was almost willing to overlook her awfulness just because he wanted that familial link but the Warden luckily talks some sense into him.

He was designed to be this pure sweet puppy romance for the player character so he's pretty much the polar opposite of toxic masculinity. He's not afraid to show his emotions and wears his heart on his sleeve. He spends a good portion of the start of the game grieving the loss of his mentor Duncan and the other wardens, for example, and will defend his grief if pressed. He's never ashamed of his feelings and he's a total romantic who does really sappy cliche stuff like give the Warden a rose as a symbol of his love.

As mentioned, Alistair jokes a lot and does poke fun at himself but he doesn't respond well to mean-spirited jabs making fun of him and he can actually resort to sass or downright rudeness pretty quickly if he's antagonized enough. He's very passionate about the things he stands for and if you rile him up too much it can be enough to end a friendship with him if it's in regards to something he holds dear.

Initially Alistair struggles with self-confidence and he's not a born leader but the Warden eventually tells him that he needs to start standing up for himself and he takes that to heart. He's a little more sure of himself now — though of course his insecurities haven't completely disappeared, and ruling Ferelden is still a daunting challenge. There are days he'd rather shirk his duties and go mingle with the ~commoners~, but his people love him and he has time to grow into a good king. And he wants to be a good king.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:

Alistair is trained in fighting with a sword and shield and he's physically fit, but otherwise he's just your average squishy human. He's been trained to be a Templar and game mechanics allow him to use the talents listed there however word of God says Templars can only use such abilities when also using Lyrium, which Alistair does not do. So uh. Basically despite game mechanics dictating he can dispel magic and whatnot he can't actually do that in a real world setting unless he starts taking a highly addictive and dangerous substance, which he............. isn't gonna do. But he knows how to! Basically he can sense magic but he can't do much about it.

As a warden he's also able to sense darkspawn if they're nearby but in turn darkspawn can sense him as well.

Inventory:

- royal armor
- tunic/trouser set (for wearing under ye olde royal armor)
- A shield
- A sword
- A small bundle of letters tied together with a bit of string (correspondence between Fiona and Duncan)
- His mother's amulet

Writing Samples: a top level with multiple threads but I can link more if that's not enough!
